Michael J. O'Loughlin is a journalist, author, commentator, and speaker who covers religion and politics with a particular focus on the Catholic Church. He is the author of HIDDEN MERCY: AIDS, CATHOLICS, AND THE UNTOLD STORIES OF COMPASSION IN THE FACE OF FEAR, due out November 2021.


Mike is the national correspondent for America: The Jesuit Review and he has written for The Atlantic, The New Republic, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, The Detroit News, Foreign Policy, The Advocate and The National Catholic Reporter.

Mike is the host of  the America Media podcast "Plague: Untold Stories of AIDS and the Catholic Church," which tells a story about the Catholic Church's response to the HIV/AIDS crisis in the 1980s. He is writing a book on the same topic, drawing on his own interest in the intersection of LGBT issues and Catholicism.
